Class of 2011
The family network committee will present What's The Big Deal - Kids Will Be Kids on Wed, March 10, 9 am in the auditorium. It will discuss recent research that indicates that even occasional binge drinking can have a lasting effect on a teen's brain. In fact, a comparison between teens who binge drink (even just twice a month) and those who do not shows a 10% difference in thinking and memory tests. In school, that could be the difference between one letter grade or another. Our guest speakers will discuss how alcohol use really does affect teens differently than adults, and how "pre-gaming" has changed in recent years. In the most recent Fairfax County Youth Survey, McLean area high schools had some of the highest rates of alcohol use and binge drinking in the County; come learn what that means for our kids and why teen drinking really is a big deal.
The next Principal’s coffees will be Wed, March 24 and Wed, April 28, 9:15 am in the auditorium.
Signed course selection sheets and AP contracts are due by Fri, March 26. Make sure your child turns them in.
The next class coffee will be Thu, April 22, 7-9 pm, in the library. In response to some parent requests, we are having an evening coffee! Please join us to hear about year-end activities and pertinent rising senior information. More details to follow through the class email distribution.
The Junior-Senior Prom will be Sat, May 22 at Westwood Country Club. Watch for emails about volunteering on Prom day or night. We need people to help decorate and chaperone. Students will receive invitations at the end of April and be able to buy tickets in May.
The junior class is responsible for clean up from ANGP (All Night Grad Party) on Fri, June 18. Watch for emails asking for volunteers to help in the early morning!
As always, please send any photos of your child to LHSphotos2011@gmail.com. We do not have everyone represented, so please take a moment and send some pictures! We have until next spring but the sooner the better! These pictures will be used to create a DVD to be shown at our ANGP and then given to each student as a keepsake of LHS.
