Class of 2011
It's hard to believe that we are now in the last quarter and our first year is quickly winding down. Our freshmen have been busy. They have worked hard and have actively participated in the various arts and music programs, sports teams and interest clubs. A class treat during break is being planned for our students sometime this quarter.
The big change for all of us next year will be a new principal. The process is well underway and hopefully a new principal will be transitioning in by the end of the year. We will miss Mr. Clendaniel and wish him well in his retirement. He has certainly gotten to know our freshmen throughout the year, not least through his presence at all of the extracurricular events that he regularly attends. His dedication will be hard to match.
Langley's PTSA hosted a presentation by FairGrade on April 1 and has since endorsed their work (for info see <www.FairGrade.org>). We encourage you to support their efforts to have FCPS revise the grading scale to a 10-point scale by signing the online petition at <www.ipetitions.com/petition/fairgrade>. Their research and data highlight the disadvantages of FCPS's current grading scale and how it negatively affects our students.
One last opportunity to volunteer to help with a big school event is coming up! All classes pitch in to help set up the All Night Grad Party on Thu, June 12, while the seniors and their parents are at the graduation ceremony. The senior parents are the ones who work all night during the party (much more fun than it may sound); we just help with set-up. We'll be there soon enough and will appreciate the help of the other classes when they set it all up for us. The freshman class is responsible for arrangements. We will be asking for volunteers to sign up for shifts during that day. We will send out an email soon requesting volunteers and will include details about shifts and times.
