CLASS OF 2010

"Into every life some snow must fall" and did it ever fall in 2010!  Although the record-breaking snowfall presented unprecedented challenges, it was quite a beautiful sight and gave us all an opportunity to enjoy a little extra family time.  Now we're back to business as usual and soon all the mounds of white flakes will be a distant memory.

Our class coffee has been rescheduled to Thu, March 18, 9:30-11 am, in the auditorium.  As you recall, our agenda includes guest speakers school psychologist Jason McBeth and social worker Donna Bardsley.  They've kindly agreed to join us to discuss strategies on how we can keep our students "motivated and on track" and share tips for parents on "letting go".  Please contact Teresa Hyatt, TCH_design@yahoo.com, if you can help with hospitality.

The annual Battle of the Bands has been rescheduled to Sat, May 29, at the Old Firehouse Teen Center in McLean.  Contact class sponsor Chris Rademacher, christopher.rademacher@fcps.edu, for more information.

We continue to collect student photos that have been taken at Langley or Langley-sponsored events for the end-of-year show.  Label each photo with your child’s name and year, ie John Smith, freshman year.  If you have questions, contact Mollie Vardell, 571-220-8678 or molliev@verizon.net.

Please keep in mind that two things are mandatory this April 15: paying your taxes and your student's attendance at the Senior Ethics Forum during the school day.  Participation is mandatory for all seniors, and transportation and lunch are provided.  Parents will receive a letter from the Langley administration in mid-March which provides additional details about the program.  Government teachers will discuss the program in class and collect permission slips for the trip.

Dress for the day is business attire, with dress shirts, dress pants and ties for the boys (most wear a jacket as well), dress pants or a knee length skirt with appropriate sweater or jacket for the girls, and dress shoes for everyone, no flips flops or tennis shoes.

Other dates of interest are Prom on May 22; senior picnic on June 14; class trip to Hershey Park on June 15; family coffee and awards ceremony on June 16; Graduation and ANGP on June 17.

Congratulations to the many seniors who have already received college acceptances!  Please make sure to inform Betty Schneider in the Career Center of the results of your applications.

Thanks to our administrators who have given our seniors a new privilege.  Each Friday Saxon Time is designated Senior Time in the cafeteria.  Ask your student about it.

BACCALAUREATE

The next planning meeting is on Thu, March 11, 2:20 pm in the PTSA conference center (the PTSA trailer).  All seniors are invited to help plan this event and make it memorable.  Baccalaureate will be on Sun, June 13, 5 pm in the auditorium.  It is funded solely by donations from Langley parents, students and community.  We still need tax-deductible donations to help cover our expenses.  Please send your donation to LHS PTSA Baccalaureate C/o Paul Purcell, 10320 Yellow Pine Dr., Vienna, VA 22182.  If you have any questions please contact Christine Purcell, Christine.Purcell@cox.net, or Laura Mendelsohn, smendelsohn@cox.net.

Senior News

The All Night Grad Party 2010 will be held Thu, June 17, 11 pm to Fri, June 18, 5:30 am.  This long-time tradition will be held at Langley the night of graduation.  Graduates have a blast celebrating with their friends in a safe, alcohol and drug-free environment.  Further information and a ticket form are in the back-to-school packet.  Please purchase your child's ticket now (which is discounted for early purchase) and sign the release on the back of the ticket form that will allow your child to attend. The form can be returned to school with the other packet materials.  Contact Lisa Walsh, lisawalsh@mindspring.com, or Joanna Ehat, jgehat@cox.net, with any questions or if you are interested in helping with this worthwhile event.
