Summer Reading List (KIT) 7.1.10
This summer, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is continuing its summer reading program. This has become an integral part of the instructional program here at Langley High School. The Humanities teachers have selected books which are not only high interest, but also relevant to their studies for next school year. The students will be using their summer reading assignments to facilitate discussion and writing as the school year begins.

Langley Directory Information "NEW 2010-2011"
Dear Parents and Friends,
Each year the PTSA publishes a Directory that is an invaluable resource for all families. This year we will work with Mike Schoen and his team from School Directorease, to produce a professional quality Directory. By working with School Directorease this year we will reduce the data entry process by allowing families to enter and correct all their information online. The other advantage will be that THE DIRECTORY WILL BE PRINTED FOR THE FIRST TIME AT NO COST! School Directorease does this by selling advertising space in the Directory. We would like to invite our Community families and area merchants to purchase advertising space. It is a great way to both show your support for the school, and also gives all who receive a directory a chance to, in turn, support your business and/or service. We heartily encourage our school community to support all advertisers.
The Directory lists important school policies and contact information as well as class lists, student addresses, telephone numbers and parent email addresses. As veteran members of our Community know, the directory is checked many times each week when locating friends, contacting room parents, scheduling volunteer activities, and the like. The Directory will be ready for distribution in the Fall.
There are full page, half page, and classified advertising opportunities available. There might also be some premium location spots available that are more expensive (inside covers, tabs, etc). If you are interested in those, you should contact Mike immediately because those sell quickly! Your ad will be at the fingertips of all our families throughout the school year.
To obtain a directory ad form, contact Mike Schoen at mike@schooldirectorease.com. Please share it with others who may be interested.
All directory ad forms with camera-ready artwork and a check payable to School Directorease need to be mailed to School Directorease by August 15th, 2010.
Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about the new Directory format. Keep cool, have a great rest of the summer and thanks in advance for your support!
Best regards,
Diane Diner

Fees For AP Classes
In previous school years, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has covered the full cost of AP exam fees; however, due to budget cuts FCPS will only cover a portion of these fees for the 2010-2011 school year. In preparation for next school year, parents and students need to be aware of a few things.

Athletic Administration Fee (AAF) Statement
On May 20, 2010 the Fairfax County School Board finalized the FY 2011 budget. This budget will impact athletics and activities in several ways:
• A $100 per sport, per student Athletic Administration Fee (AAF) will be charged for participation in all VHSL athletics.
• The funds collected from the AAF will directly support the Student Activities and Athletics Program (SAAP) budget which exceeds $21 million system wide.
• The drill team supplement has been eliminated. Many schools use this supplement to support a dance team sponsor.
• Winter cheer has been eliminated (fall sideline and competitive cheer will continue)
• Swim practices using Fairfax County Park Authority pools have been reduced by one day (from 4 days per week to 3).
• Significant modifications will be made to the current athletic transportation protocols. Transportation will continue to be provided.
• The AAF will be waived for students who are eligible for free and reduced-price meals.
• There is no relationship between the AAF and a guarantee of student playing time. Playing time is at the sole decision of the Head Coach and his/her staff.
AAF billing and collection details will be provided over the next few weeks. No payments should be made at this time. It is expected that an online payment system will be available by the 2011 spring season.
